Land Of Look Behind

Get the flash player to see this video.

When Jamaican musician Bob Marley died prematurely young in 1981, the world mourned.  But in his homeland, his influence enabled the island to thrive. Rastafarianism and reggae music have never been captured as vibrantly, dramatically, or movingly as you will see them in this acclaimed documentary by director Alan Greenberg and cinematographer Jorg Schmidt-Reitwein, both longtime associates of legendary filmmaker Werner Herzog. Tucked away from the well-worn domain of visiting tourists is that place which is called Look Behind, a large wilderness that can frighten people but also inspire awe and beauty. In this place, you will see musicians Gregory Isaacs and Mutabaruka speak and sing their truths of Jamaica and its people, the squalor of almost insurmountable poverty, the strength derived from a special religion, and the serenity that so many call to mind to this day whenever the island's name is spoken.
