No less than 12 reggae artists were recognized with the Order of Distinction in the rank of Commander or Officer by the Jamaican Government. The Ceremony of Investiture and Presentation of National Honours and Awards, held at the National Indoor Sports Centre, Kingston, Jamaica.
While Richard 'Shaggy' Burrell was honoured for his contribution to the music industry, Clement Seymour 'Sir Coxsone' Dodd was honoured posthumously for his service to the Jamaican music industry, like Arthur Stanley 'Duke' Reid.
Jepther 'Luciano' Washington McLymont was honoured for his contribution to reggae music, Ewart 'U-Roy' Beckford and Winston 'Burning Spear' Rodney were recognized for their contribution to the development of Jamaican music and culture.
